M1, NGC 253 and NGC 1499

M1 (Crab nebula): a 55 min SHO rendition of the Crab Nebula imaged with an ASI 533MM pro camera using a Sky Watcher 80 ED triplet refractor fitted with a field flattener. Data was integrated and processed in Pixinsight and Adobe Photoshop 2024. The Crab Nebula is the most famous supernova remnant and pulsar wind nebula in the constellation of Taurus lying ~ 6,500 LY away which exploded in the year 1054 being observed by Chinese and Japanese astronomers. The Crab Pulsar at the centre is a neutron star some 19 mi across with a spin rate of 30.2 times per second which emits pulses of radiation across the EM spectrum from gamma rays to radio waves.

NGC 253 (Sculptor Galaxy): An 84 minute rendition of the Sculptor Galaxy imaged with an ASI 533MM pro camera using a Sky Watcher 80 ED triplet refractor fitted with a field flattener. Data was integrated and processed in Pixinsight and Adobe Photoshop 2024. The Sculptor galaxy is a so called "star burst" galaxy where stars are being formed and is around 11 MLY away.

NGC 1499 (California Nebula): Two versions of the California nebula; a 1 hour RGB rendition and a 1.4 hour SHO rendition. Both data sets were imaged with an ASI 533MM pro camera using a Sky Watcher 80 ED triplet refractor fitted with a field flattener, with data integrated and processed in Pixinsight and Adobe Photoshop 2024. The California Nebula is an emission nebula located in the constellation of Perseus lying around 1,000 LY away and is so called as it resembles the outline of the US State of California.
