Members viewing and imaging evening 8th October 2025

Members viewing and imaging evening 8th October 2025: Members enjoyed a nice evening at the society's observatory under clear skies to get a first glimpse of the comet C/2025/R2 Swan which is now making an appearance in the evening sky. With a gibbous super moon rising not long after sunset, a brief period of semi dark conditions allowed viewing of various constellations and asterisms, with some narrowband imaging carried out on the Gamma Cygni nebula using a small refractor with shared knowledge of the intricacies of astrophotography undertaken. A large go-to Dobsonian scope was then used for some excellent close-up views of the Moon and the planet Saturn with its rings almost edge on.
