The Dumbbell Nebula (M27), is a bright planetary nebula in Vulpecula, about 1,360 light-years away. The nebula formed when a sun-like star exhausted its nuclear fuel, shedding its outer layers into space, leaving a hot central white dwarf that illuminates the surrounding gas.
