last night I observed a large bright fireball, below is a report that I have just sent to the BAA.
LOCATION ; 47, SUMMER PLACE ,LLANSAMLET, SWANSEA, SA7 9SB
CO-ORDINATES; LAT 51 DEGREES 39’ N LONG. 3 DEGREES 53’ W.
FIREBALL SEEN AT 21:55 UT APROX. START ALT 40 DEGREES ALZ 70 DEGREES. VERY BRIGHT GREEN FLASH.
BRIGHT TRAIL ALT 40 – 30 DEGREES ALZ 70 DEGREES. BRIGHT WHITE TRAIL.
BROKE UP ALT 30 DEGREES ALZ 70 DEGREES.
5-6 SEGMENTS SEPARATED AND FELL 10 DEGREES THEN FADED AT ALT 20 DEGREES ALZ 70.
The observer happed to be looking eastwards when a bright green white flash appeared in the sky approx 40 degrees altitude. The fireball then fell 10 degrees where it broke up into 5 or six segments, these fell for another 10 degrees where they faded at altitude 20 degrees. The fireball fell almost vertically from where i was standing and did not travel across the sky in alzimuth, it was if I was looking directly along it’s flight path. LLansamemlet is on the eastern edge of Swansea South Wales and the fireball fell over the village of Skewen which is 2 miles away.
