Afocal Lunar imaging

Using a cheap, fixed focus, 12Mp Vivitar Vivicam T027 point and shoot camera, a Practika afocal rig and an ultrawide, 9mm eyepiece. Cheap, focus-free point and shoot camera can be obtained on Amazon for less then £20 at the time of writing. Even without an afocal mount to hold the camera and eyepiece together, it is possible to obtain acceptable hand-held afocal images.

The setup was mounted on a Skymax 127 Maksutov.

The 81% waning Moon was imaged afocally in this way:

The Tycho region of the Moon

The image was post processed in the Gimp 2,10 to resize and change the levels.

Proving that it is not necessary to have very expensive equipment to produce pleasing results.
